Welcome!
In this section, you will find links to North America organizations offering information and products you may find useful in your pursuit of backyard feeding.
American Seed Trade Association
ASTA’s mission is to be an effective voice of action in all matters concerning the development, marketing and free movement of seed, associated products and services throughout the world with a minimum of regulation. ASTA promotes the development of better seed to produce better crops for a better quality of life.
Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology
As one of the most recognized and respected authorities on birds in the world, the Cornell Lab serves as an international center for the study, appreciation and conservation of birds. Cornell Lab is an authoritative source for information about birds, providing scientists and conservationists the tools needed to study and manage birds: bird population information; sound recordings; and the Birdhouse Network Nest Box Cams.
Migratory Bird Conservancy
The Migratory Bird Conservancy is the only program devoted exclusively to conservation of birds and their habitats. MBC is a unique partnership among birders, birding businesses, and the conservation community. Our goal is to raise at least $500,000 annually to help conserve bird habitats throughout the Western Hemisphere. YOU can help save birds by making a tax-deductible donation and by supporting those companies that contribute to MBC.
National Fish and Wildlife Foundation
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation conserves healthy populations of fish, wildlife and plants, on land and in the sea, through creative and respectful partnerships, sustainable solutions, and better education. The Foundation meets these goals by awarding challenge grants to projects benefiting conservation education, habitat protection and restoration, and natural resource management. On this website, you will learn about their grant program and be able to check updates on their conservation programs.
The Bird Conservation Fund is a program to provide businesses with a cost-effective way to help finance high-priority conservation projects in the Americas. It is the brainchild of Swarovski Optik North America and was endorsed by the WBFI Board.
Here's how it works: a company makes a tax deductible contribution, either an outright donation or a dedicated portion from the sale of its products. For example, the Institute has committed $2500 in '98; Swarovski will give a percentage from each binocular and scope sold in the Western Hemisphere, which might be as much as $50,000 annually.
The funds will be pooled and matched by up to $100,000 by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NWFW) in Washington, which will manage the program. A committee that includes people from the business community then will select priority habitat conservation projects to be funded with this money.
Grantees will be required to match those funds, which means that $1 contributed by business will grow to $3 in "on the ground" conservation. NWFW is permitted to use only the interest earned by those funds for administrative overhead. Thus 100 cents of every dollar contributed will be used for its intended purpose.
The Bird Conservation Fund provides the bird feeding industry with an innovative program to demonstrate its commitment to birds and their habitat - - something critical to each of us. It also will give WBFI and your company a high yet cost effective profile within the conservation community and among the wild bird feeding public.
The Fund concept was developed specifically for this industry, and you are strongly encouraged to join us.
